Representatives from developer Yager used this section of the demo to show off the various visual motifs at work in Spec Ops, in this case the omnipresent examples of destroyed opulence and extravagance evident in the Dubai ruins. My demo started inside of an apparently deserted highrise in the sand covered ruins of Dubai as Captain Martin Walker (voiced by Nolan North) and his team search for the survivors of the Delta team that preceded them in the search for Colonel John Konrad, the AWOL commander of a task force originally designated to help evacuate Dubai's populace. Man's inhumanity to man and the horrors of guerilla war are on display in a way that games have typically glossed over or avoided entirely, and it makes for a very different atmosphere. Explosions of white phosphorus burn a gathered crowd alive at temperatures of 5000 degrees Fahrenheit as a team of heavily armored commandos moves into sweep up any remaining resistance. Blackened and mangled corpses hang from street lights and overpass signs, a message to those who pass.

A highway is bombed, leaving torn apart corpses and blood streaked across a sand covered road, while maimed civilians drag themselves along the ground only to finally shudder and die. A helicopter brings a building down with rockets, destroying entrenched indigenous resistance fighters.
